Yes! I am a Bookworm and I
am proud to be
Honestly, it
was so exasperating when my classmates actually stopped calling me by my name
and kept on chanting names like “BOOKWORM”, “PADHAKU KEEDA” and all those
stupid annoying names which people use for their bookish friends. My friends
literally died of laughing when, on the last day of examination I said,
“Finally our exams are over. Now I can read my favorite books as much as I want.”
Honestly their chortles, guffaws and giggles are still banging in my head. My
friends laugh at me saying that I am the weirdest teenager they have ever met,
who instead of posting photos on instagram and clicking selfies, is busy
reading those same old picture less books. They all laugh at me because I’m
different. And what I do? I laugh at them because they are all the same!
These lines
are so true that Reading is dreaming with eyes wide open. If all the books on
our planet are like the stars in the whole universe, then I have explored so
less. If God gave me choice of choosing a long life without a single book or a
short life with books as much as I want. Then even without thinking for a while
I’ll definitely choose option B.
Many of my
friends and family members ask me which is my favorite book and whenever
someone asks me this question, then always this quote comes in my mind, “Asking
a bookworm to name their favorite book is like asking a mother to pick a
favorite child.” Anyway I do have some of my favorites. Well my favorite is
Harry Potter series. Honestly, this series are just completely irresistible. I
mean, seriously I have read this books already about 1000 times and currently
I’m on 1001th!
I have also
watched Harry Potter movies but the magic in these books is something which is
totally different and I really prefer that it’s a must read for
bookworms(especially for those who like fiction novels).
My friends
ask me “Why read the book when you can watch the movie?” To this I really feel
to reply back but I feel it might be a bit rude to say, “Why breathe air when
you’re gonna die anyway.”
This habit
of mine of continuously reading books has earned me a title of “BOOKWORM” in my
class. At first I really found that irritating and wanted to get rid of that
name. But the only way to get rid of that name was to stop reading book, which
I can never ever give up. For me reading is a part of my life without it I’m
nothing. And why should I get rid of that name when I’m actually a bookworm.
Now even if
the whole world calls me a bookworm then I don’t care because you know what, “
I am a bookworm and I’m proud to be!!”
At last I
just want to quote those beautiful lines of Albus Dumbledore “For in dreams, we
enter a world that is entirely our own. Let him swim in the deepest ocean or
glide over the highest cloud.” Well I don’t know about dreams but I can surely
tell you that by reading books we do enter that world.
You can try
for yourself.
